I have a whatsit?

An artists smock? I'm confused! It's like full in front, with a little pocket, canvas, and then ties in back...what do you think?

I can't even venture a guess on date...any ideas there?

Looks like a smock to me....late sixties, early seventies? Cotton presumably? It could be a maternity garment.

Actually, the tag looks more modern.....I reckon it could be any time in the last forty years but more likely to be post 1980.

I'm seeing this as a sophisticated 50s take on the hostess apron, suitable for popping on over your black capri pants and turtleneck sweater. Throwing a little party with chianti and a fondue.

I think its a hostess apron too. Vera did complete lines of linens, and I'd just bet that there were matching placemats, napkins, tablecloths.... It's most likely late 60s, or into the 70s.

Answering your other questionabout the signature - I just read Lizzie's article (THE Lizzie who posted before me ;) ) about VERA and she says on garments from the late 70's into the 80's there is usually no signature.
