Jacques Heim Coat/P. Cardin Dress-Union Label ?s

Had a pretty good day today but finds got me wondering. I picked up quite a few "designer" items but they all have the ILGWU union label used from 1963-1974. I got these two items - a cute Heim coat and a P. Cardin dress (which is black so you can hardly see in my quick pic). I also got an ODLR dress (with tags - yea!) and a couple other middle of the road designers - Ole Borden and Gino Charles. My question is this...particulary on the Heim, Cardin, & ODLR - does the union label makes these less desireable or affect value? I know these aren't the OOOH LA LA couture pieces but I believe they are 1960ish and are all in great condition.

I guess I am asking from a learning perspective...thoughts? This isn't a knock on union items but I just know that these were were not made in Paris or Italy or some other fashion hotbed. :)

Heim Coat (I am in love with color!)

Pierre Cardin Dress (sorry pic so bad - just no light at all - lightened up so you can see some detail - there is more on front of dress)

Hi,

All I can tell you from my memory is that Heim's collection Jeunes Filles was very influential to fashion at the time.

The coat was made here in the USA, a partnership using Heim's design pattern, or made up by Bonwit from the original unfinished or completed toile/dummy coat which was imported as a sample, etc.

I adore that color.

de la renta is an american designer, so a union label from the period is to be expected anyway.

cardin had a paris/new york line. same as dior, lanvin, and i'm sure others i'm just not thinking of at the moment. not as desirable, but still desirable.

wonderful finds!

Honestly, it has been so tough to get vintage around here lately that I have been very discouraged. Then today, I hit an estate sale in its final hours and have a half price heydey. I golf a lot and it reminds of golf - I am generally a pretty mediocre player but every once in awhile I have an amazing shot or an amazing hole and it renews my enthusiasm for the game. Today was my amazing shot/great hole day in vintage terms. Got me all revved up again! :)

Ha, ha--exactly! I am a golfer, too, and this is a perfect parallel to that. You hit that great shot or make a rare (very rare, in my case) birdie, and it keeps you going back, just as a great, but rare, buy, keeps you going back....
