James at the Met

Here are a few images from the Met exhibit. There was lots of tech stuff to show various details.
On the scarf dress, the digital video showed the dress unwinding to show the garment sections.

The Babe Paley dress is fabulous. Here is a view of the unwrapped skirt. A 19th c. dress was its inspiration.

I begin my workshops on Sun for 2 weeks so must return to organizing.

If at all possible, you should try to see the exhibit and it will take several hours. My friend I stay with in NY who know nothing about sewing or fashion thought it was fantastic. C

Here are a few more images. These are from the press kit. Laura, the book is stunning with lots of photos, but none of the patterns.

Claire,

Thank you for posting those photos. I might be able to see the exhibit if I attend a wedding in NY this summer. I sure hope to try. I have been looking forward to this for years.

I have to ask, as I thought I saw a hat or 2 on the tables in the 1 photo you posted. Did they have any of his hats from his very early career? Most folks don't care a hoot about his hats, but you know me.....I have to know. I would hope they did include that part of his design inspiration.

I ordered the book on April 15rh from Amazon. The original shipping date was mid-June. I got a notice last week to expect it earlier. The estimate is now May 19- 23 - although it has not shipped, yet. I'm not going to be able to get to New York to see the exhibit so I'm looking forward to to the book.

Linn
