hello all....
I have recently received a batch of clothes pretty much all with labels so I am busy looking up designers...

I need more info on Jean lutece... His label reads Jean lutece, custom tailored in Hong Kong.

So I have only found info on him from other sellers but no bios.... One seller says he "supposedly" became a designer for chanel and they were selling one of his dresses for $495. then another person had him listed as a couture designer... which I dont think he is! but I was nto able to see what the price was that they sold the dress for....

So i was planning on cleaning this at home unless someone can convince me to send it to a professional (meaning its worth somehting more than 30-40 bucks) lol
thanks all....

ps. I am not too worried about the date sure its 60s... mid-late has plastic zipper with teeth (very fine teeth though) not coil zip.... and fits 60s styles so ... Just who the heck is "He"

Thank you again!
Jennifer

thanks some respnse is better than none!! :-) I found another one of his dresses.... all white but way more beading than mine.. has 3 inch seam sepertation and it is listed for $700 and somehting (not e-bay but retailers own site)

Soooo... I guess this is a good piece??? I don't know I'll just be happy if I can get more than 40 bucks for it lol!

Wow! 700.00, Let's get some VFG experts on your dress! That picture of your lable would be great on the VFG label thread if it is really that collectable.
I'm sure some experts will Chime in!!

i hope so... I cant imagine its that collectable because I cant find any info on the person,.. I just think there are a few out there price gouging... but he may not be run of the mill label? time will tell i suppose :-)

I haven't heard of the name, and there is no mention in the label resource so I'm thinking that it's not particularly collectable.

In the '60s there were large workshops of beaders in Hong Kong, churning out beaded garments for designers and manufacturers around the world - although in theory anything that is hand beaded has high value, it's like any vintage and value is set by demand - the more attractive the design, size and cut, the more desirable it will be.

I found one on ebay with a BIN of $14.99: number 300245602870. I wouldn't get too excited by online sellers with high prices on dresses, it doesn't necessarily indicate true value.

Also: Jean is a common woman's name, so it might not be a male designer.

I just searched through my small library, and again - nothing.

I did find a dress on one of the international ebays at $18

I think the online sellers asking big bucks are just pushing the envelope.WE do that sometimes.

On it's own merits, I think you would be safe to check the beading over proceed with cleaning. It's nice dressy dress, and it looks well made, but it's not a sexy dress, and the market for those is tough. The younger gals who buy vintage dresses for special events generally want to show at least some arm and neck.

I had a dress with this label several years ago. It was very similar to yours but in pink.

As I recall the quality was not exceptional but not bad, sort of middle of the road. Definitely not couture. It didn't command a huge price then and probably wouldn't today as it was rather dowdy. I think it was a label that would have appealed to middle age housewives.

I agree with Hollis that those who are asking big bucks are pushing the envelope. One can always try. The one thing you can't tell from those listings is how long they have been sitting on the dresses. At those prices it may have been a while.

I would offer your dress as is and not clean it.

Best of luck!

awesom thank you...

Yeah I wasnt too excited... but I did not want to make a mistake lol.... Common sense told me if he/she was desirable then there would be info on him...... and I saw the 14.95 one but it was Gaudy and she sells all her stuff cheap! so I decided to check to make sure... :-)

Thanks all, and the conclusion was the one I expected!

I love yall...really do!...can't wait until I've grown enough to become a memeber :-) (more educated!)

Hong Kong tailored labels tend to be undervalued. In general the crafstmanship is beautiful and the materials very nice. The designs are usually conservative. On my website or at a show I would price your dress between $80 -$100 if it is in excellent condition.

E-bay auction prices are unreliable. One week something might go sky high the next week it could bomb. If you are looking to turn a fast buck with auction you might very well only get $18 for it. Thats e-bay.

When I price my merchandise I factor in a number of things. Quality, name, trend, rarity.... Your dress is a lovely conservative dinner/party dress which is hand beaded. The quality is superior to most modern $300 dresses. The right person for this dress would be happy to pay a third of that.

awesome thank you for the advice :-) thats good to hear, and yes its not just bead work its rhinestones too... so it is pretty but not "sexy" lol just classy!

THanks for the advice. now I can put $50 or a little more and feel confident that the buyer is getting a good deal! thank you!

i am very familiar with the designers(past and present) of all the fashion houses and this name doesn't ring a bell.....

but a nice dress.....could see someone shortening the length to update it....

I have a great 50's 60's Hong Kong Lame Coat an unknown designer. This does not mean it is valueless I think price depends on the design and bead work. I would try belting the dress above the waist for an empire waist.
This is my jacket
