Jeane Scott by Margot info?

Hi, This dress (another from the local theater) has two labels. The first is "Southland Fashions / Dickson & Ives / Orlando, Florida." I've learned that department store Dickson & Ives was in business from 1944 through April 1965.

I've found only one comp for Jeane Scott by Margot (on Beans & Rice), but the label and dress are both very different styles from these.

This dress looks very Peggy Olson (Mad Men) to me (late 50s/early 60s). The construction is nice. Lots of darts. All the edge seams (including the neck interior) are encased in (there's a term for that I can't remember at the moment, maybe Hong Kong?) or hem taped. Interior seams are pinked. Lots of seam allowance.

The store label is in the collar and the manuf. label is in a lower side seam.

Here is some esoteric trivia for you: although the dress is modest, it is not Kosher. It mixes wool and linen which, for reasons no one has been able to explain to me yet, is verboten.

Does anyone out there know anything about Jean Scott by Margot label?

Again, administrators please

Great dress! I would have loved to have worn that during my corporate years...and you're right about Peggy. Here's her frock, recently on display in Melbourne....I agree with late '50s to early '60s for yours.

Hi ladies -- It does not appear to have been shortened. No evidence of an older hem fold. But it's possible. It was definitely opened at the bottom back (I reclosed it by stitching the buttons through both sides). I'm guessing the actress needed a bit more freedom of movement than the dress allows. Good thing they didn't rip it.
