jewellery/ring: vintage or contemporary

hi to the vintage ladies and gentlemen,

i found a ring today in a second hand shop, but i have absolutely NO idea about its age or worth (well, i know about the worth it has to me, because it was love at first sight ;) ). Maybe there are some jewellery experts who can give me a clue?

the seller said that it's silver, but i can't find a stamp/mark on the ring to prove that. also, i have never seen something like this before, but this all means nothing, because vintage jewellery is a completely unknown universe to me. i don't even know if it's vintage at all, haha!

so, did anyone of you see something similar before?

I don't know why - but I instantly see 70's. It almost looks like one of those rings made from horseshoe nails.

Did you look at Linn's wonderful workshops on vintage jewelry? They are HERE

Not sure if that info could help with this ring, but it's a wonderful place to learn about vintage jewelry.

Thank you, Amanda -

This ring is out of the arena of "vintage costume jewelry" but I "think" it's probably'60's or '70's and it certainly looks like it could be made from horseshoe nails.

Sterling should be marked but if the ring is handworkd or artisan made - which it appears to be, the material might not be stamped. You could take it to a jeweler who could test it but it's probably not worth doing that if they charge.

thank you so much! i didn't even know that something like horseshoe nail rings exist, but i'm amazed by the fact that they do.

the inside part of the ring is very thin and regular, but the "heads" of the nails look very irregular; the outer nails look like they are made out of one piece, and the inner ones look like they are added. i'm sorry, at the moment i don't have a better camera to show you this on a picture.

@linn: great workshops!
