I have a cute little wool and velvet jacket with this label. Was this a store, or was she a designer?

Oh thats sweet!!!

Sorry the only rigbys I have heard of are Cathy and Eleanor. And they have nothing to do with fashion.
 
Joan Rigby was a shop, fairly highend with a fair amount of clothing made expressly for the shop.
It looks like fabrics were imported if so needed from France and Italy..
It does look like a cute jacket and the skirt I see peeking out looks as if it makes a nice duo...

Joan Rigby was both a designer and a shop, like Hattie Carnegie (and about the same level of quality as Hattie as well). She was in the fashionable BLoor St area, in fact I think she was right on Bloor street, from the 1930s - 1950s. I find her label all the time in hats, as well as clothes. Definately society matron stuff.
 
Thanks for the great information. I'll put it in the label resource. I was going to add it to my VC-Mall listing, but the jacket has sold already.
