Joan Rigby

Hi!

Last week, I was a a secondhand store, and came across a beautiful wool coat, with a tiny bit of fur around the collar. The neck label says "Joan Rigby", and another label, nearing the halfway mark of the coat, says "Jehoc Fabric by Blim et Blim" England. I think it's that, or Blin et Blin???

Does anyone know much about Joan Rigby, and maybe the approximate age of the coat? It is in excellent condition.

Thanks,

Cilliewill

I've never heard of Joan Rigby vefore now, but Blin & Blin was a French textile mill (that Adolph Schumann often bought from for Lilli Ann suits).

Joan Rigby was apparently a very upscale boutique in Toronto; I just found a reference to it in an online book chapter about private couture customers (in 50s Toronto, I think, from a quick skim).

I couldn't copy and paste the relevant text due to the Adobe format, but if you click on the link below and read the last paragraph of page 20, which continues at the top of page 21, you'll see the reference:

Thanks for the information. I have now sent pictures online, too.

I find quite a few Joan Rigby labelled garments. Mostly hats and coats, but sometimes suits and dresses etc. I recall I found somwhere that she had opened in 1937 and was in business until 1962ish, or thereabouts, but I can't remember where I read that... and I might have her confused with another TOronto store, but I think that is right.
