Johnny Moke (1945-2009)

I have never heard of him until this past year. I don't believe he was very prolific - the only example of his work I have ever seen is one pair of shoes at the V&A and I seem to remember they were from the 1980s. If anyone runs across any info about him, with pics of his work, do share...

I lived just off Kings Rd. in London in the 70's and also in Kensington where I haunted the Kensington Market, so the name is familiar to me, but that's about it. But then I was wearing vintage 40's clothes all the time!

Here are some of his items.

We probably passed each other in Kensington Market Amanda. The Kings Road and Kensington High Street was one of my stomping grounds when I was at art school in London in the early 70's. I lived over the river in what is now known as Battersea Village(!) Did you 'do' the jumble sales at Chelsea Town Hall?

!! I actually lived in Battersea for a while too! I did lots of jumble sales. Chenille was a very big thing then as I recall, and I sometimes found nice items in boxes outside of peoples' houses. In the US we call them "rummage sales" and you bet I still going to every one that I can.
