with all this bad rain we have been having,, and the terrible floods up north....of the uk... i was just wondering if fellow vfg'ers are ok....? and if its affected any of you ?

i live down in south wales..... we have had really bad rain fall but nothing like what some of you have had....

i have seen the news footage.. and its unbelievable... and in june as well

the flooding has effected thousands of households and business.....

i know there is nothing i can personally do... but i do really feel for you if you have been affected.... by the extreme weather.....

The fields flooded this week so the horses had to be moved but the stables remained dry but it's pretty much drained away now. Leicestershire is in a valley though so we are sheilded from much of the bad weather but not so far up the M1 from us got it bad though!

Lincoln has had quite a bit of flooding and quite a lot of businesses were affected in the very city centre around the Brayford (inevitable if you have a massive pool of water in the moddle of town really!). Luckily although we're not far from there we live halfway up the hill so apart from not really being able to go anywere as the A1 etc flooded we are OK, and they kept Finlays schoool open although quite a few of the villages had to close.

Think people are still evacuated from the flats down near the river, and they pulled a body out of the water about 3 miles away which is pretty shocking. All seems a bit better now but if we get any more rain they reckon more of the city centre will flood again, as all the defences are bursting at the seams.. lots of water trickling through concrete which isn't very reassuring. We have too many waterways in town!

I keep considering moving house but there are now certain areas I would think twice about as this isn't the first time they've been flooded quite badly. Hope everyone else is OK!

I've actually spent the last 2 weeks trying to lay a brick patio, lol.. :BAGUSE:

there was a guy on the news last night saying that developers and the council are too quick to pass building of new houses on flood plains.....becuase of the lack of housing.... maybe now they will think twice about it.....even though those flood pains may not have been flooded for years and years.... it could still happen.. which has been proved over the last week.....

they are also saying that we are going to have a shorted of fruit and veg etc and the price is going to go up......

i also feel sorry for the people which havent got insurance.....as i know how easy it is not to get insurance if times are hard.... as you never think of something like this happening.......and its not a priority like food....paying utility bills etc.......( i know i have been there......in fact i think i better check that i still have insurance ...)

The stables used to flood once in a blue moon but they have already flooded twice in the past 5 months. The reason? They built new luxury houses down the road in what was once the flood plains!!!

In North Yorkshire they have spent a lot of money on flood defences which is great for our towns, but the water has to go somewhere so if you live down stream now you get flooded out, it's a little like "I am ok Jack" which is so wrong.

Houses are bad enough been flooded did you see the picture of the farmers field who have had the crops destroyed, I cannot see they will be insured and that's next years income gone.

Personally I live on very high ground with a good slop so flooding is unlikey not happen to us.

hi... paul........how you doing...?

i didnt think of it like that.. everyone is screaming for a flood defence in high risk areas.. but as you say.. its just moving the problem as the water has got to go somewhere.... all its doing is moving the problem from one area to another....

and as lei has pointed out.. with new houses being built... it is causing flooding else where.... like lei's stables are now flooding..... just imagine if that was a house.....never any flood problems until they build houses, and the thing is who could you blame.????

over the weekend we have had terrible rain..... and we have only gone out in the car for essentials and hubby for work..... and he was saying the idiots on the road.....either going too fast and aqua-plaining everywhere... or peeps are going so slow that people are getting impatient and overtaking and having near misses..

oh well i will be inside again today..watching lewis hamilton in the french grand prix i think he is second off the grid today...
