This clip from Antiques Road Show features esteemed clothing historian Karen Augusta appraising a men's smoking jacket made in the late 1800s of printed cigar silks. It was originally shot in 2007 but I caught it the other night.

You can see photos of the amazing jacket, watch the video of the appraisal, and read a transcript of the interaction (during the entirety of which the jacket's owner's complete vocabulary consists of "Right," and "Wow").

Oh, is Karen a member here?

MS, I was impressed by that fact, too -- the carefully thought-out placement of the ribbons, centering them, setting them adjacent to ones with similar names and so on. I appreciated how Karen mentioned the jacket not only as being of interest to tobacciana collectors and clothing and textile collectors but as a piece of folk art because of the careful composition of the silks.
