Karl Lagerfeld 1980's Blazer

Picked this oversized blazer up today and notice now that I am comparing labels to the fabulous Label resource that my 'Karl Lagerfeld Italy' has a little loop at the bottom of the l in Karl that isn't on the tag in the resource. Does this make it a fake or just an earlier or later tag perhaps? The quality of the garment is good. The button on the front is so so but then it may have been replaced at some point in its history. It's 100% wool with a simple tag inside with washing symbols and nothing else. Curious.

Best wishes,

Helen

OMG! 55 views and no speculation?? Has this big bright blazer stumped VG? I have been looking for more Lagerfeld labels online and so far have not found another with the extra bit so makes me wonder - if it is fake wouldn't there be more online?

Hi there,

I was thinking more along the lines of 'Wow that is a Lagerfeld label we have heard about but never seen! Why don't we add it to the directory?' kind of response. :)'

I use the directory literally on a daily basis and have many labels that are not in the directory - such as Armani, Gaultier, Versace, Brooks Brothers, etc. Sometimes I wonder if I should just send them in but then again, if the item is fake that would not be good. So unless the garment is authentic the label cannot be submitted and I am not going to pay to get an authentication on a garment just so I can submit the label to the directory. See the Catch-22 going on here?

Bye,

Helen

I've been puzzling over this one, as I am interested in this era (or any) of Lagerfeld's work. Though I have no collection of KL items, I always check them out online.
It is still "the holidays", so perhaps many are away, and engaged in celebrations away from the computer.

Do you have a complete length photo view? It would be good to see all the plaid matching, or lack thereof. Could you show the care label you mention?

It looks as if you find the resource helpful.

Hi there,

I took photo's from all angles. The plaid matches pretty good. What is the consensus? Worth pursuing or one for bins?

Happy New Years!

It matches well on the front, but the pattern is not central on the back, or matching up with any pieces it joins. That's quite common for a high street piece from this period, but you'd need to compare it with other KL rtw pieces to know if it was for KL.
I think it's a nice jacket, looks good and warm and cosy no matter the label. I'm intrigued to know if the button is original, as it looks awfully like a 1930's art deco button to me - it could just be a retro influence, as the colour matches very well, but I wonder if it might be a replacement.
Can you get another shot of the label in better focus so we can see how it's sewn on please?
