Kimono

I purchased 2 kimonos and 2 haori (I think) from one estate. I know very little about kimonos but I knew they were vintage and I instantly fell in love with them.

I've have tried to do some research to determine their age, but just when I think I have it pinned down, I am thrown off again. I have read past threads here and visited the website that was recommended, but I just don't know and I don't feel comfortable guessing. My hunch is 1920's, but I really can't say.

Most kimonos I've come across are much newer and of synthetic fabric. These all appear to be silk crepe. Some are lined in silk that I have only seen used in 1920's dresses (very thin, soft, with some sheen), so I think that MAY be a clue.

None of them have belt loops.

The silk lining on this one is so lightweight that it's nearly sheer.

I'm seeing this as 40's/50's from both prints - the lining reminds me of the tin plate toys that were made in the East at this time.

Thanks for your reply.

I decided to get them appraised out of sheer curiosity. I took them to the textile department of a nearby Asian art museum and the expert said circa 1930.

Thanks, everyone!!
