I have seen others similar at an early age but unsure on this one. It was in a lot of a lot of lace from 30’s-40’s

I agree, a crocheted (not knit) yoke to be attached, sewn, to another garment - probably an undergarment like a nightgown.

I used to find hand crocheted yokes like these in thrift stores, some were yokes alone, some were yokes with sleeves. Some incorporated colors. Some were examples of excellent hand work. For awhile there was a fad where young people wore them over colored tee shirts. I really don't remember the time periods--maybe late '70's early '80's.
