Knit Pearl Necklace - No clue about this one

I nabbed this up at an estate sale. There were items from the 50s-80s. I love this necklace but have no idea the era. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Hi,

It possibly is a one of a kind, hand made by a crafter. Even so, it is one of the nicest of those I have seen. In the 1960s there was a rage for making beaded jewelry at home, using techniques similar to macrame and crochet, and often using metallic threads or yarns. Stores sold a wide variety of these Bead Work jewelry books, and I still have some from my teen years. Choker and wide necklaces were popular in the mid to later 1960s in the books I have seen from that time. There were books with instructions for hippie styles, Victorian styles, and more contemporary styles. Many of the designs were quite intricate. I have never seen one with so many nice quality pearls like yours, it is quite spectacular for that type of thing.

I could, of course, be wrong, but I have seen so many of these over the years, made of gold or silver metallic threads with pearls and other beads, that it really looks like one of those to me.

I was just about to say, there is a fabulous bead shop in town here and they have lots of samples of creatively beaded things like this - they will do it with wire too. I agree the materials look older.

Yes, I see it.....it sure could be a collar! Often there were instructions for a whole set of matching items, collar, cuffs, necklace, earrings, glass cases, etc. Gosh, I think I should find those old craft books and take a look-see.

I just picked up a School Annual from 1952. I swear about 75% of the ladies had one of these in their photos or at least a Peter pan collar. That or a pearl necklace.

I'm getting a vintage feeling from it, also, but I'd like to see a clearer picture of the part with the "tie. I don't think the tie goes in the front. There are several different colors of pearls - cream, pink, grey - something about the colors used and the design gives me a 1950's feeling, too.
