I am stumped by a knit sweater and midi skirt set I found recently. I cannot determine the designer. It seems to be a wool and some synthetic blend. Perhaps even a touch of mohair since it has a wee bit of fuzziness. The design is printed on, rather than knitted in. I'm usually able to arrive at a satisfactory answer to my questions, but not this time. My longing to know is driving me insane, so I would be ever so thankful if anyone has a clue.
The labels have been removed, but tiny pieces remain. Enough that I can see that two to three labels sat on top of each other, as is frequently seen in high end ready to wear garment. These labels are nice quality material and the only one that can still be read says, "made in France." That, plus the letters seen on the garment itself, suggests a designer that was particularly popular at the time. The closest I can think of, according to the clues, would be Azzedine Alaia since the letters fit and he did use some abstract patterns and shapes from time to time. He also had many garments manufactured in France. The problem is, I can't find anything of his, anywhere, that looks like this. So, I'm back to square one.
Do any of you fellow vintage lovers have any ideas as to designer?
