This coat was found in a family trunk and I am having trouble dating it. The stitching seems to be by machine. It's an off white natural material with tea staining? I am at a loss as how to descriptive the lace.

Its Edwardian era. Maybe 1905-1910, but it would be helpful for us to see the full length of the coat. It is hard to get a more exact date with it laying flat. Can you take a photo of it on a hanger or a person? Are the sleeves full length, do they come to the wrist?

Hi Judy. Lovely piece. I agree with Barbara, in that it's likely from around 1910ish but it would be very helpful to see the whole silhouette/shape.

It appears to be either linen or silk with lace inserts and frogging. An afternoon or summer day coat. There seems to be some embellishment under the centre back lace insert, judging by the interior stitches but I can't see it well enough. A close up would be good there too please.

Thank you both. I am unable to reply much this evening but will follow through tomorrow. Much appreciated.

Thank you for taking an interest. Here is the coat on hanger and on me. I am 5'4" and have fairly broad shoulders and arms if that helps

Let's see if this works.

This one is a bit of a challenge! I might go with earlier in the decade, 1902 1903 ish. The flared silhouette, and also the bell sleeves which would fit over the blouse sleeves of the day which would generally be slender along the upper arm and full and puffy at the cuffs. Often the blouse's decorative cuffs would intentionally show under or go past the jacket's cuffs. This looks like linen to be worn in summer.

It is gorgeous!
