Lace exhibition in Switzerland

Just on the chance anybody should be visiting Switzerland this year :eureka:...

The textile museum in St. Gallen (which is always worth a visit) has a special exhibition about lace produced in this part of Switzerland - it runs til 30th december!

Sadly, the exhibtion homepage is only in German, but you can see some pics here. More info on the museum in English here.

There was a very nice review in my newspaper today, and it has already made my mouth water - I will definitely visit and report back. It's very near to where my mom's best friend lives, so this could be another nice girls' day out :drinking2: . The last time we did this, they had a wonderful exhibition on lingerie.

A bit more info in short: lace and embroidered fabrics from St. Gallen have been famed for centuries, and this is also where a form of machine-produced lace was invented in the 19th century, which made St. Gallen lace even more popular, and sold around the world. Of those companies that have survived til today, the leader certainly is Jakob Schlaepfer. They produce incredible fabrics for the Haute Couture collections amongst others. The Swiss National Museum had an exhibition a few years ago that was similar (but probably not as big as this new one, and a bit less focused on history). As I remember, Christian Lacroix used to have a lot of the lavish fabrics produced by Schlaepfer, but they also showed couture designs by Chanel and Westwood amongst others. So I can't wait to see what the museum in St. Gallen has to show! The museum is also home to a huge lace collection from all over the world. In any case, there will certainly be a lot of eye candy on show, and I think the fashion history nerd within me will be quite happy to see this! :D

Choppy indeed! I've seen worse though :bouncy:. I honestly can't understand why they can't to a page in English too - the National Museum usually does. Mhhh, maybe I should write to them. They should be interested in promoting this exhibition abroad too, after all... To be honest, I had expected them to have an English page too.
