Ladycourt of London?

Hi!
I have recently started collecting vintage and I have purchased a wonderful irridescent brocade peplum style dress, which I believe to be from the 1940s/1950s. It is by 'Ladycourt of London'.
I have tried to research the maker online but I cant seem to find anything, except a few dresses for sale by the same maker between 1950s-1960s.
Any information anyone can shed on 'Ladycourt of London' would be very much appreciated! Especially information concerning when the label was established and when it finished trading.

Many Thanks!
Becky

Hello again!
I manage to get some pics taken, so I cant wait to hear your thoughts on the piece! I'll be very grateful of any light you can shed. I think the dress is just absolutely beautiful - I dont think I have ever seen a dress like it!
Thanks
Becky

Becky, I can't help you with the label but that style, with the pouf skirt on the top and straight below is late 1950's - 1958 to be exact!

Thanks Nicole - its great to have a date for it; thanks so much for your help :-)
... Now I am calling for anyone with background info on the illusive Ladycourt of London themselves!

Hi everyone,
I was very excited to see this dress on the website as I have one exactly the same. It belongs to my mum really. She bought it Christmas time 1958 when she was 21 and I was 6 months old. It was purchased from Marsden Brothers in Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire, a tailors shop which operated from 1904 to 1964. It's spectacular buildings can be seen on the website www.Newcastlestaffspasttrack.org.uk which has information on the owners in 1960s, the Saunders family, senior and son, Keith. This may be a trail to follow regarding Ladycourt, as they may have old order books etc.
With regard to the dress - mum always thought the thread was gold. I have religiously kept it inside out on it's original wooden hanger with no plastic wrapping. Unfortunately it is a size 12 with a very small waist, so I have never been able to wear it. Would love to know what you all think.

Hi Denise,

Thank you for the date confirmation - that's wonderful! It's a beautiful dress, and it's lovely to have family history associated with it. Many dresses can be altered, perhaps could this one be adjusted to fit you? I find that dresses of this era can usually be altered up or down one size fairly easily but of course, it's harder if more is needed.

Hi Becky,
What a wonderful dress and how nice of Denise to come in and share her story with us.
I hope you don't mind Becky, I did go in and edit a few of your photos to thumbnail size as they were so large.
If you click on the thumbnail version it does open to a nice size to better view the item.

Thanks again for sharing your wonderful find with us!
