Lafitte Feather Dress - Anyone heard of?

I picked this dress up with the Sarmi I posted yesterday. It has quite a few issues so I was able to get the seller to "throw it in" as part of a deal on the Sarmi.

I have been googling and searching and not finding much but wine for Lafitte. Has anyone ever seen this label? I realize I may never know but thought it worth picking your collective memories ;)

Thank you all!!

Found a trademark registration in the USPTO.gov database. Registered in 1963 with first use same year. Nothing else though. Doesn't look like worth the investment to save. Maybe will sell as a costume piece - I just love the feathers! :)

Your dress may have a much nicer history than you thought...from a 1963 NYT article:

"SPECIALTY OF NEW SHOP IS LUXURIOUS FABRICS--Staron fabrics have long been used by leading Paris couturiers and top American designers like Norman Norell and James Galanos. The line includes luxurious silks, brocades, and cut velvets as well as silk and worsted combinations.

Until last week the woman who makes her own clothes, or has a private dressmaker, could find these fabrics only in limited amounts in very few shops.

Now, a full selection of Staron fabrics, along with ready-to-wear, accessories, and some household items, can be found in a little boutique, Lafitte, at 8 East 54th street that opened its doors quietly last week.

The shop was the idea of Milton Dash and Jean Pizzella, the heads of the New York division of the French fabric house. The pair wanted a showplace for the fabrics...
(and much more)"

Lynne, you find the most amazing information!

Thank you. I figured with that 54th St. address it had to be a very nice quality shop.

Lovely ostrich trimming on that gown....unless it was dyed for some reason (cannot imagine why they would dye it those colors), the colors indicate it is from the female ostrich.

Hi,

I have been thinking about this dress and the trim, and wondering if the feather trim is original to the dress? Can you determine that somehow?

I only ask because since we now know the upscale fashion people behind this shop, and their use of the finest fabrics, one would think they would use a better quality ostrich than what I am seeing here. It just seem "off" to me.

Just wondering, no biggie if it is added. Just seems odd to me.
