Lanificio Coat From Peru

Hey guys, my first post of hopefully many. I’ve got a lot of vintage stuff I may have questions about, for a handful of items that were my grandmothers who was also an amazing seamstress herself, but before I start to get into her stuff, I found this awesome coat from Peru that I actually got from a good friend of mines mother and forgot I had, from back in the college days and I know she had it well before that in Peru before they came here. I am having trouble figuring out the maker (if there’s any official one to begin with) and also if it is vicuña or alpaca or cashmere or a mix of any of those. I plan to message her tomorrow and ask her since it was her coat many years ago and she will probably know but wanted to see if anyone had any insight in the meantime. Vicuña stuff is pretty expensive and I’m not in love with it so might want to sell, but it’s driving me crazy not knowing much else. There is literally one tag, that’s it. It reads ‘Lanificio del Peru S.A.’ And then mentions Arequipa, Peru. Thanks!!!

I can't help you with what type of wool it is, though I might be able to if I could see it in person. It's unlikely to be cashmere, afaik cashmere is not much produced in South America and certainly isn't native there. But searching Lanificio del Perú S.A. shows the business began in 1946 as an exporter of textile products and has been recently liquidated: https://compuempresa.com/info/lanificio-del-peru-saen-liquidacion-20109365271

Thanks for the reply and info!! I've got a message out to my friends mom who owned it, so am just awaiting to hear what she says back since she's bound to know!
