Hello vintage fashion folks !
I am new here and out on a limb.
Anyone ever see or hear of a Lanz of Salzburg cloth doll, c. early 20th century ?

A November 1936 newspaper article about holiday gift ideas for young people stated: "For the girl whose room is filled with interesting dolls, there are new ones from Austria, dressed in copies of the Lanz of Salzburg costumes that are fashionable now." Note that it doesn't say the dolls were made by Lanz.

In the late 1980's-early 1990's gift shops advertised for sale "Lanz of Salzburg dolls."

HERE is 1988 trademark information about the later Lanz of Salzburg dolls.

Oh ! This is very interesting information.
Do you happen to know in which newspaper this article could be found ?
Thank you kindly for this history.

One of the newspaper databases to which I subscribe is NewspaperArchive and it was there I found the article(s) originally. The exact same gift-giving-guide article appeared in a few newspapers in November 1936. Among them were West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, and North Carolina newspapers, so I assumed it was an (AP?) article distributed to several papers across the country.

The 1988ish information may have come from the same source, but I don't remember for sure, as I subscribe to a couple of newspaper databases.

The trademark information was found by Googling.

Your response has been valuable and I appreciate it immensely.
I was able to contact the Austrian headquarters of Lanz & received
information that they in fact, made the early dolls in their ʻTailoringʻ
department.
Research is so much fun when the trail is full of helpful people
such as yourself ! Again, many thanks !
