Large clutch bag - 1980s?

Hoping someone here will be able to help date this clutch bag I recently bought. It is quite large - 17 inches by 9 inches. I haven't seen this type of closure before. The bag is lined in a dark blue (acetate?) fabric and has two pockets, the smaller one I imagine would be for a mirror. Although the colour in the photos vary it is actually navy blue, a bit scuffed around the edges but nothing I can't sort out. My first thought on its age was 1980s though I don't remember seeing any this big at the time, but I tended to use tiny shoulder bags back then. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. To me it reads 40s, with that smooth satin lining and Art Deco clasp.

Thank you, I am thrilled that you both think it's 1940s - it was listed on a certain auction site as a 1980s vintage clutch so I assumed it was 80s does 40s style. It is in pretty good condition, just a bit of wear & tear/loss of colour around the edges and the inside is very clean. I have been a-googling and yes, there were some pretty big 40s clutches - I always thought of them being small to save on materials. The clasp is what first caught my eye - I love it!
