This is a lovely dress, black chiffon overdress - very sheer. The skirt has been thinly pleated over the whole of the hip area. I'm dating it as 1960s - is that right?

There are two sets of labels - Cripps is an old Liverpool (UK) store which closed many years ago. The other label is for "Panache by Elizabeth Henry" - can't find anything about it or her, can anyone help?

And finally, I think the lace collar and cuffs are original to the dress - but what sort of lace is it, it is a tape lace of some sort? I keep thinking it is maybe Carrickmacross, but I'm not sure.

Ooooo this in my humble opinion has a gothic touch to it on the right Betty Page kind of girl! I am not schooled in lace so I cannot help you there but I would say this is a late 1960's dress. The ribbon bow at the waist is right there up with the latest designers and will help bring lookers in...
Have no idea about the labels, alot of help I have been huh?

Hi Margaret,

This does have a bit of a gothic flare to it! That is a machine made
needlelace (no particular name that I am aware of.)

How strange!! My former landlady was a wedding dress designer/maker called Elizabeth Henry. Unlikely to be one in the same though :)

I did a google and vivisimo search and could not find any Elizabeth Henrys
that were involved with clothing. That would be so cool if it was one and the same!

I should have paid more attention to Lin's Goth-fest!!! - I would never have thought of Goth for this dress! Thanks all!

I've bookmarked that lace site Marie - thanks!

And Wow! - wouldn't it be strange if it HAD been Emmapeelpants ex-landlady!!!! (Spooky!)
