Late 1800\'s? French Wool Riding Jacket??

I am in LOVE with this piece! I could use some help dating and giving this piece a name. I was thinking the late 1800's The large buttons are real shell and the little ones at top are marked Tresse Paris. It is wool and stunning. Thanks in advance for your help!

It looks like the sort of jackets you see from about 1900 on the nose. However, I don't know if I would attribute the entire jacket as being French by the buttons. Also, I don't think its for riding - any I have seen in photos or fashion illustrations are for winter promenades.

This jacket is in very good condition and probably was part of a suit with a matching skirt. This style of tailored jacket was also worn as a separate outdoor jacket often with embellishments and sometimes referred to as "Spectator" and a new one to me "Dip" jacket. Could you show the buttonhole detail? French, American or English. Always important to keep these fashion centres in mind when looking at this period. You still see voluminous jacket sleeves during the 1890's in French fashion.

The NYPL Digital Collection (a fantastic resource) has some examples of this cut of jacket. Here are two;

Hi,

I just was looking at a page from a French fashion magazine, Winter of 1901, and saw the exact same style. I mean EXACT same! The only difference was the back had a double pleat, not a triple pleat, but the front was exact on the "nose" as Jonathan had said.

Beautiful indeed.
