Hi everyone.

I was lucky enough to find this christian dior dress.

I just have a few questions about it.

It can be no earlier than 1948, when that label was started. Looks early 50s to me. Nicholas Ungar was a Portland Fashion shop it appears.
Very Nice!!

I think I would go even later - 1958-60 because of the blouson back and short hemline. Dior New York was specifically designed for the U.S. market by the Dior atelier in Paris but it was made in New York from 1951 on (the label did appear in 1948 as Brenda said, and even though it also had the Dior New York label, it was made in France until 51)

Thank you both for the information.

If the above is correct, the information regarding the first label listed in the Christian Dior label resource is incorrect. The first label pictured could not belong to a late 40s dress.

No, what Jonathan wrote is consistent with a late 40s date for that Dior label in the resource, just that the New York label was actually made in France until '51.

Hi, I deleted them to take better photos of it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Here are the ones I originally posted:

The dress is 44" long, made of what I think is silk dupioni (definitely silk).

The label is located at the back of the skirt, midway down, at the seam.

Miraculously, it is in mint condition.

Thank you Marie. It does indeed look fantastic, you could try photographing it against a dark background to really show it off.

Hi Pinkcoke,

yes, I agree it would look much better that way. I just took these against a wall for a quick snapshot. Hopefully I can find the time to photo it sooner than later. When I do, I'll be sure to upload them.
