Laura Ashley Dyers and Printers Smock Dress

Hello, I have a lovely Laura Ashley smock dress with a Dyers and Printers label.
It has a square neck and pintucks with two side pockets and a zip at the back. I believe it to be from the 1970s but would appreciate your help to let me know if this is the case. There is a very short hem - looks like it is factory made but not sure - perhaps it has been shortened (see last picture)? It is 42" shoulder to hem.

I’d guess at early to mid 70’s. I think Laura Ashley early dresses were much more ‘house wife’ style before she moved on to the summery outdoorsy maxi’s. In saying that it could still be later 70’s if she continued with them.

I agree 70s decade wise, and agree on mid-ish 70s. If so it may not necessarily have been shortened. It all appears to have similar overlocking?

Am I right that part of the care label we can see is a 40 beneath another (unseen) number? - as this I *think* was introduced in the U.K. c. 1976, which would help narrow it down date wise.

Also the addition of the European metric measurements, and the US measurements might .. most likely post ‘73 for the EU label (as this is when the UK first joined the EEC), and as the first U.S. shop opened in SF in 1974 that puts it post ‘74.

I think it’s tricky with Laura Ashley, as she has such a definite style - and the more commercial they became the more lines they did! Would be helpful to know what exact date they stopped using this particular label - in particular the size (eg ‘12’ ) font which is quite distinctive on this style of label. Even though I think of that one as early 70s, I guess they must have had so many of them that would need to be ‘used up’ as things changed, hence the two labels together?

Anyway, I digress as am now wondering out loud really.. overall I’m just essentially agreeing with the above post! :BAGUSE: :)
