Leather Amalfi sandals by Rangoni

are these 70's? they have the look and width but again it's a style that's still being made today. They should be pre-1985 because of the Rangoni label.

Mine are from Spring of 2011:

I will get a picture of the label. It is different, of course, and it is stamped:

Do you have Jonathan's latest shoe book? There is info about Amalfi Rangoni.

I know the fisherman sandal style is continually offered, as it carries through the line, year after year. I'm guessing yours are 80s? Maybe.

I have the A-Z that where I got the 1985 date from. Sorry I thought you meant you'd picked up some vintage shoes earlier this year so the label might have been similar.

it's interesting my label is more akin to your 60's one but I wonder if the different labels were for different styles of shoe.

If anybody on here speaks Italian we could see if they have a searchable Trademark history like we do in the UK. That would give specific dates for the different style labels.

the 70's pair has the same heel that slopes in towards the toes, then again I've seen that on a pair on 60's pilgrim pumps in 'Vintage shoes' by Caroline cox that I'm reading at the moment.

when you say the different ways the label are set in do you mean how they are attached? or the border on mine?
I would have said they are attached the same way - side edges folded over and glued on.

I think they are 80s, but would love to see a straight-on side profile view of those heels. From the little I can see of that in your photos, they do not look 70s or maybe not even mid 80s to me, despite the older-looking label. But without a "clear" look at the heel, I can't really make a good guess at all.

They may be different in the way the labels have been applied.
With mine, I think there were slits made, in order to insert the labels just beneath the leather, if I'm not mistaken. Wish I still had them to check, but yes, label edges were turned under, and glue was used.

In any case, a slightly different quality of workmanship in the label attachment, between the two pairs, to my eye.

Sorry I haven't got them with me now to take better photos but the heels are slanted at the back towards the toes and even more severely at the front of the heel, almost a romboid.

There was a legal battle in 1985 over the right to use the term 'Amalfi' because its a place name that had been used since 1946 for shoes made by Rangoni for the U.S. market. After 1985 there are other Amalfi brands out there but they aren't necessarily by Rangoni, although Rangoni continued to used the Amalfi name.

With that cleared up... I think your sandals are quite new. The heel shape is tapered, to the top lift which is a later feature. I think 90s. If they were 70s the heel would have straight sides to the top life for a chunky block heel.

I agree with Jonathan on '90s for the sandals - in the '90s they got very creative with heels and you see some interesting shapes. They've also got that squarish toe that was popular in the late '90s.

Joules, I think your second pair are '80s too.
