Lesson in MOD please?

I know this dress is in the mod era (or at least I think it is...) and I would consider the cut mod, but perhaps not because of the length ??? But would you call it mod? Or does mod need a mod print to be considered mod?

And is fagotting the proper term for the collar and cuffs?

I would consider that mod, myself. It sort of is like a cusper looking with a touch of some flower power but the shape and clean lines make me think mod.

I would also consider that more of an open embroidery/cutwork or even dare I say sort of an eyelet?

it's a really nice dress - such a bright crisp white, too!
 
oo, dolly mod, that's a good descriptor! gotta remember that one...we used to refer to this style as "Brady girl" dresses but that's lotsa words.

the rectangular shaped areas would be considered faggoting; the rest is embroidery, or at least thats what they call it around here...
 
Definitely mod, and I think "dolly mod" nails it. And I would not call the openwork faggoting. Not sure what it is called exactly, but I have had a number of dresses with faggoting, and it's not that.... Open ladderwork, perhaps?
 
You will find this cut of dress also listed on Ebay as a 'scooter dress' but I don't know about the scalloped edge and cutwork - it makes it rather un-mod! The term dolly mod is great but is it used by the public? Do people search with that term?
 
well, l wouldnt consider that true a 'mod' look, but it depends if you mean the 'mods' as in the group of uk youths who dressed a certain way in 60's or the more regular use of the term mod for modern..

personally it isnt mod, but then for ebay its a keyword for the era..and you will get the hits...

I agree its more 'dolly', as that does imply feminine and pretty and cutesy. I dont know of any Mod who would have worn something so pretty with all the eyelets etc..Mods wore blocky colours and plain blocked designs...

Well they seem to bastardize everything on ebay and because of that it's great that you guys are here! And I will probably put dolly mod in the title just to get hits - awful (?), but true!

I don't see this as a scooter thou.
 
Thanks, Harriet! I forgot about that - DOH. I actually did read it at one time and completely forgot about it - and as you can see retained quite little... Will go have a reread!
