Hi, I think it is just a design choice that the red thread has been chosen for the underthread and overlocking, both of which will only be seen on the inside, the tan thread being the normal 'top' stitching.
I am sorry to disappoint but I believe these are modern jeans, considering that they have the tumble dry symbol on the care label (added in 1985) and the number of languages the care instructions have been translated into. Generally the more languages the later it is. (some of the modern tops I have now have such long labels due to this they actually mark a line to cut the excess off before wearing!)
The way the brand label states 'original' also suggests to me that they are a later revival of the 'original' design, as when something is brand new, nobody puts 'original' on it.
