Levi\'s help...California Ranch Pants

Hi, all. I found a pair of jeans today and wonder if anyone can help me figure them out.

They are labeled (square white with red and blue print label on inside waist band) "LEVI'S Authentic Denim Western Wear Levi Strauss of California Sanforized."

There is a white tab in a back dart that says LEVI's (leaning E) on one side and California Ranch Pants on the other. They have a side zip (by Talon) and square snap at waist and on both front pockets (western cut).

There are four western cut wide belt loops (coming to a point at bottom).

From what I can find, they date to the late 1950s. But value is a big, tricky thing with Levi's... I found some almost identical on Ebay listed for a very high "buy it now" price. I suspect that is way too high, but I don't want to get ripped off either.

Does anyone know anything about these, or can you point me to some reliable resources? They're really cute, and they are in exceptional condition (not new, but really nice!). Thanks in advance!

Ahhh... thanks for that thread link. I wonder whatever happened with those??

Mine have a couple of differences, though. Mine are denim, are marked "authentic denim" (and only "ranch pants" on the back of the tab label). Also, my snaps are square. Interesting!

Here are a couple of photos, taken quickly... They're wrinkled, but overall pretty darn good condition to have obviously been worn (light fading on both knees, and just a slightly faded seat).

CUTE!!!

All I wanna know is what size they are. ;)

Well, Leisa, let's see...

They measure about a 28 inch waist and barely a 27 inch inseam.

I'll just say... they ain't fitting me (dang it!).

So what kind of price range should I look at? Maybe I should put them on ebay to be safe? Jeans are so not my speciality...

I would take my time to take some really great photos. The label photo is great. Look at closed auctions to figure out what folks are looking for - do they need to see photos of the rivets or construction? People that buy jeans like this like to visually be able to verify to themselves that they are authentic. The prices are all over the map. I think 28" is a reasonable size - its not too tiny. This would be lengthwise for a petite gal unless you think the inseam is deep enough for them to be capri length but that's what I am guessing. I don't know what to say about actual price.

I have a somewhat similar pair of capri pants - they're marked Levi Ranch & I've also dated them to the late 50's.
I would say with that length they're also probably intended to be capri or at least cigarette length.

Size is important - however, the thing to realize here is that the value in these is their cute 50's casual style and not really because they are Levis. This isn't the kind of Levi's that the big collectors look for.

If they were in my shop, I'd probably price them between 45-65.

Thanks to you both! I'll get these washed and dewrinkled, and take their close-ups... They certainly do have the cuteness factor going for them!

Ah - I seldom think capri because this would be an inseam a short person like me would wear LOL. it wouldn't be boot cut but just about the ball of the ankle to wear with loafers on me :)

Hi there hope I'm not to late...I'd say your pants are 50's ranch wear side zip dugarees . I sold a pair of these for over 100 a few years back they were a larger size and in near mint condition. the pearly white snap are a very desierable detail, depending on the market you could probably get a good price for them. These kind of Levi's are always sought after so you never know! good luck!

Thanks, sweetrockingal! I haven't sold them yet (haven't even posted them). Thanks for the information. For some reason, I'm hesitant to post them... I think it's because I don't want to let them go. And I can't even wear them!

I posted mine on ebay, twice, and they didn't garner much attention. Finally sold in my antique mall space for $25. Definitely use "ranch pants"' if you list, that could be the clincher.

well if you are interested in selling them now would be a good time a lot of people slowly but surely are buying now for Viva las vegas rockabilly weekender so in your listing you can say Vintage 50's ranchwear side zip dungaries VLV something like that be sure to mention somewhere in your listing the pearly snap and all.. :cheer:
