I'd like to share this moment:
My 13 yr old son has profound autism and has no speech so as I'm doing things around the house, I try & include him & talk about what I'm doing & trying to use Makaton as well to communicate, rather than letting him totally lose himself in his own world.
So, as I was tidying my vintage shoes the other day, I showed him the pretty diamante buckle on these shoes as people with autism are very visual.
Yes! I had his attention! He looked at diamantes intently.. touched them, great! Then he took them from me to hold...FAB!....and then promptly tried them on!!!
Bless! Maybe I shouldn't encourage....he can get obsessive (!) but it was so sweet and I did get interaction!! So what the hey! :spin:
