Lilli Ann Jacket --someone stole the buttons!

Hi friends,
I found this lovely jacket at a thrift store in California. I was so excited to find it that I didn't notice the buttons had been ripped off. There are some rips in the lining as well.

I'd like to replace the buttons, but I don't know what they looked like. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am not skilled enough to repair the rips in the lining, although I could probably tack down the lining that has come loose at the hem.

I think I just need some encouragement to sell it--either as-is or repaired, I just don't want to mess it up.

Also, the last picture is an unidentified accessory. Rayon triangle scarf interwoven with plastic bead strand, and the tag reads Blossom Creations Made in California (no RN#)

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I'll make a guess. Since it has a black "flower" black buttons would work. For the lining repairs, use a small clear plastic button as a "stay button" Sew them on with the buttons on the outside.

Of course, you'll have to declare that the buttons were replace and made a few mends. Claire

Your photo is so small it's hard to tell any detail. Can you post larger?

Guys, if you click her photo it takes you to the album with the bigger photos.
But for future reference Trish it's better if you post each pic in your original post.

I agree the tears to the lining need professional help either with patches or replacing that panel piece.

I wondered if the button could have been a fabric rose similar to the center of your flower?

Hello,

I have a very similar Lilli Ann suit that has the same labels. Hope this helps!

That's what I had in mind. Double rounds of black velvet. Thanks for posting your pic!

Thanks for reposting larger versions, Trish! Now that I can see the fabric has that black slubbing, I agree with Linn that black buttons would be fine. The other option to consider, although harder to find, would be marbleized red & black. It's a great jacket, even with it's issues. I would have taken it home too, with or without buttons.

Nicola, I'm pretty sure that Lilli Ann label was in use for quite a few years. Your jacket has wonderful detailing.

Hi Maggie,
Thanks for coming back to have a look. Oooohhh, marbleized red and black! The buttons must have been special to have been ripped off. Could I be bold and do rhinestone buttons?
Trish

If the jacket didn't have the black applique on the shoulder, I'd say Go for it! re: rhinestone buttons. But I think it would not be a harmonious whole. If you like the marbleized idea, search ebay and/or etsy for "vintage buttons red black".

You're right, Maggie. I think I'll stick with black velvet.

Since the buttons are off, should I take it to the dry cleaners? How should I go about cleaning this jacket?

:clueless:
