I bought a wool blend, long, shawl collared, black/charcoal/cream large scale plaid coat at Goodwill (!). The neck label says Lilli Russell of Denver. Label on the right front inside says "An exclusive fabric by Stroock 261898 Creator of America's Most Distinguished Woolens". It's in perfect condition. Even the lining. Any info you could share on this or resources I can use would be so appreciated. This is my first vintage purchase!

I agree that photos will help a lot. If it's a wool/polyester blend, it's unlikely to be older than the '60s. Of course, if you mean "wool blend" as in wool plus another type of wool (eg mohair, camel, llama) it could very well be earlier.

Thanks so much for the information. I'll get pictures posted soon!

Welcome back!

It looks like a '50s clutch coat: no buttons, you hold it (clutch it) closed.

Have you got a good pic of the inside button, I'm not sure what that one is about.

Wonderful coat! Love the deep shawl collar!

I did edit the photos to thumbnail size for you as they are very large for our forums. If you just click on the thumbnail pic, they come out just fine.

The best sizing is 500 x 500s pixels here.

Thanks for the help. That was the first time I've posted pictures on a forum.

Thanks for the extra pics - not sure I can help though. It's a little unusual. Generally internal buttons and loops are for either holding the coat closed (an extra fastening) or allowing a double breasted style to sit properly. It's odd to have the button and the loop on the same side like this.

Is there any evidence of there being a button or loop on the opposite side, where the coat would sit when it's closed?

Nothing. No button hole or loop. The lining is in fantastic shape where it meets the outer fabric with no evidence of anything sewn into the seam. I did a double check to find evidence of former button thread holes. Could it have been an elegant way of keeping a scarf or gloves attached to the coat when not in use?
