The Museum of the City of NY is planning a fabulous exhibition later this year--MOD-New York. It will include two Chanel suits from 1962 and 1967 so I did some research on the fabrics. They looked like Linton Tweeds so I wrote to Linton to confirm they are.
I'll post photos when the exhibit opens. The two fabrics are quite different which illustrates how diverse Linton Tweeds was and is.
The designer for these fabrics was Desmond Mathews; later Leslie Walker was the fabric designer.
