I am amazed to see some really cute online stores have just a limited amount of vintage items and they are selling like hot cakes.

Is there a sought after style in vintage? Is it what is in trend currently as seen on celebrities?

I have seen a lot of adorable models and the vintage really seems to sell well with live models. I am a fan of mannequins or forms. But I am wondering if having models is a smart choice.

Boy Jeans - That's quite a question -

Yes - there are some sellers who have worked really hard to establish themselves as sellers for the hip young crowd with disposable income. And typically they use tiny models who pose pigeon toed and often look like (in my opinion :-) they're waking up or are lost.

I have a feeling that selling 70's clothes or trying to reach this crowd... it is best to use live models.

Then there are sellers who specialize in the 50's ... or lingerie ... or vintage plus-sized clothing. I'd like to think that what is sought after is quality vintage garments that reflect the period and the craftsmanship of the time.

My personal advice (like I'm such an expert ;) ) -- if you are interested in selling vintage - stick to what appeals to you ... don't try to get into a market which is not your area. If you want to tap that youth market - check out the most popular online sellers - the online stores - the teen Vogue and Lucky magazines of the world.

For lingerie I definitely prefer mannequins - and for most garments. This is written in haste. I am avoiding cleaning the kitchen.

I agree~ buy for resale what you feel excited about describing and listing - that way you can convey a sense of joy and excitement in your descriptions that can help sell a piece.

And then maybe you won't end up with racks of stuff you can't GIVE away - I'm the poster child for that :BAGUSE:

Thanks ladies. I do love mannequins because I think it is good for a woman to see her fit in a piece that will appear much differently advertised on a sm model.

This is good insight. I am hoping to consign in the future for some ladies in my home state, and part of this is doing my research.

I wont hire a size 4 any time soon. :) Would love any insight on the vintage world.

I am doing this because of my love for this industry "retail, vintage, and fashion accessories." I am a stay-at-home mommy and don't anticipate getting rich reselling. But it is a long "passion" dream. Wish me luck, that I can do this to just stay home longer. Many well wished to your new year!!!
Many regards,
Denise

Don't forget Beth at Bijou....she's not a 4 but makes her clothing look attractive and WEARABLE.

Checked out the two models and their sites. Just awesome.
I love, love your greenhouse!!! Awesome transition pictures. So excited about the pictures and all those lovely pieces. Thanks for renewing & recycling.
Many regards ladies!!!

I do 70s on my mannequin and it sells well, looks good I think. All depends on your target market and the image you want to create...........
