Listings question - cut off for Xmas dresses etc.

I've basically missed selling during this, my first, Xmas season as a seller because I was tied up with a play, but I'll have more of a life (or less ???) by tomorrow afternoon and I was wondering what your cut off point is for listing Xmas and New Year party dresses? And how about winter coats?

And I'd also like to know what you guys list in Jan & Feb. I'm assuming lingerie, red, hearts etc. because of Valentines - are there other trends during that time?

Your thoughts are very much appreciated!!!

I know this sound odd, but if a lot of you have say party dresses in excess after Christmas I cannot see why you all could not have a party Auction week say in Mid summer, if it was advertised months in advance that on this particular week it was going to happen and the VFG members co-ordinate the auction to that week it could general some interest, It might work with other themes also.

Deborah, I usually start my winter coats in August and I think they go good through October.

My party dresses I also begin to sell in early October and I think you would probably (maybe) have one more week of selling them.

I don't sell in January and February since I own a tax business. Someone else might can tell you, though.

Deborah, I, too, have missed most of my winter party dresses & coats listings this fall; just too busy with other things! But I sold party dresses well into December last year, and plan on getting a few more listed from now till this Sunday. I also did very well with coats even into January this past season, but I think that was because the weather was so mild early in the winter, then turned cold after Jan. 1. Personally, I don't have much luck with coats early in the season, so I'm going to start listing more this month. Go for it!

I'm the same with party dresses - this Sunday will be my last listings at auction. I usually spend Christmas trying to stock up my fixed price listings, or (more likely) buying stuff :D

End of January, yes, red prom dresses etc. for valentines. I don't sell much lingerie so am not sure about that, but I would make sense for it to do well then. Maybe we should have a red themed listing week the last week in January!

Thanks so much for all your input! I will do my best to get some dresses and coats up by tomorrow and continue thru to Sunday.

"I feel like I was behind before I even started!!" I hear you loud and clear, Carrie.

Linda - you are so organized!!! I aspire to be the same. Honest. :)

That's a good suggestion, Paul, but being vacation season and all, it may be hard to get enough traffic.

Harriet, I can't wait to see your red party dresses - I don't think I have any of those, but I do have
a few gems in lingerie. And thanks for tip on prepping store stock - will strive to do same.

Thanks again and happy selling everyone!!!

Great Topic!

I think party dresses sell good throughout the year and not just during the Holidays, we have VLV coming up, proms, homecomings etc, there's always a party somewhere and someone is going to need a party dress, my opinion anyway. :)

I didn't do to well with coats this year except for my real fur geoffrey cat coat and THAT was a nightmare!!! The old horror of sending the wrong box to the wrong buyer finally happened to me!! It was a nightmare come true.

I sold a faux fur leopard coat 2 days after the real one and they both paid the same day but mixed up the boxes when I was printing labels but it worked out good, the buyer who received the real fur didn't realize what she had in her hands, (thank god) and was just worried because it was shorter and had no belt than the one she had won so I had her ship it to the correct buyer who in turn shipped the one she got to the other buyer.... Don't EVER think it can't happen to you because it can and it did!

Anyway, I plan on listing as I normally do and don't forget all the christmas money received as gifts will more than likely be spent buying.

"don't forget all the christmas money received as gifts will more than likely be spent buying." Good point.

Tori, that's my worst fear, too. Well, one of them... the other is missing a flaw. Glad there was a happy ending.

I actually put an item up without any measurements! DOH

I had quite a few coats up at one point, but only sold a few and some second time round at lower bids. A mans Burberry was bought with a BIN on the third try, but the buyer's account was apparently used fraudulently according to ebay and that was that; so I'm going for round four.

I know VLV means Viva Las Vegas - but what is it actually? A party in LV?
