Maryjane is right - that's classic Iroquois late reserve beadwork (the large beads date it to early 20th century - up to about 1940) It is probably made from polished cotton, not silk. Niagara Falls was the epicentre of production, and often the pin cushions, purses, and whimseys were beaded with a date. Twenty-five years ago these things were all over the place and cheap, but they are now collected and their prices have gone us.
