This little purse seems really old to me, though I have no idea when exactly it is from.

There is a little pocket inside. It is stuffed with cotton. The purple outer fabric feels like silk.

I would really appreciate your help dating this bag.

Thank you!

I believe that this is actually a pin cushion and it is Native American. These were made as souvenirs and many were made by the Iroquois.

Judging by the style and color of the beading of yours it would most likely be from 20s or 30s.

It's difficult at times to date these because they have been making them for quite some time back to the Victorian era.

Maryjane is right - that's classic Iroquois late reserve beadwork (the large beads date it to early 20th century - up to about 1940) It is probably made from polished cotton, not silk. Niagara Falls was the epicentre of production, and often the pin cushions, purses, and whimseys were beaded with a date. Twenty-five years ago these things were all over the place and cheap, but they are now collected and their prices have gone us.

Thank you both!

The fact that's it's a pin cushion makes perfect sense now. I think the handle is what really made me think it was a little purse. I was wondering how someone could fit anything more than a bill and a few coins in there!

Unfortunately, It does not have a date. I did a search with the information you both gave me and I found a VERY similar one. It is dated to 1919, so I think I'll go with late teens to 20's.

Thank you again, I really appreciate it.
