Little Black Dress Date?

I love this old vintage dress. There is no way I will ever be able to fit in it, but I have kept it 10 years. Would anyone know the age of this dress? There's no labels, other than a small union label. The zipper starts mid way down the back. The fabric is a smooth type, not silk, but not cotton either. I will post a few pics. Thanks!
 
It looks mid - late 1950s to me (1956-59) The Princess line, elbow length sleeves, small bow, assymetrical closure and Ottoman (thick ribbed silk) were all popular then.
 
Thanks for the information. I took the dress back out and looked for the label. To my surprise, I made a mistake, there is no union label. The only label is a cloth tag with Lot, and the Size. The lot number is not filled in. The size is 14, but wow it's the smallest 14 I've seen.
Vintagebaubles, yes, there are rectanglar gussets under the arms. I never noticed this before.
Sorry about the mix up with the label, I must have been thinking about another dress with a union label.

Thanks to everyone for all of the information. I think I will go ahead and sell it. I appreciate all of the helpful tips. You all are a great group. Hopefully, someday I know enough about vintage clothing to be able to contribute.
