Little Black Dress

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for helping me to determine the age of this little black dress and any other information you can share. Except for a few missing stones & beads, the neckline is in great condition.

I think it's a cotton velvet. It has a "shelf bust"??? strip in front. and another strip in back at same height with a bow that goes across long zipper. There are also small zippers at end of sleeves. Label is Junior Accent, but I do not see that name in the VFG directory.

Best regards,
Alice

I can't see the "strip" in front - and don't see the empire lines on this dress. It looks like a sheath to me. Could you show the detail and the back? (If you have a photoshop program you can lighten the photo to show the details.) I think that this dress is either very late '50's or really early '60's because it's on the longer side - or at least looks like it is. The other dress is quite a bit shorter and I agree that it's '60's.

I discovered that Junior Accent was the junior division of Jonathan Logan - a name I remember well from my youth!

Thanks Linn for your questions.

The hem was actually shortened by approx. 3" and it has a closed kick pleat.

We've had nothing but rain here in Columbus Ohio so my images are not the best, but I hope you can see enough details to help.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,
Alice

Alice -

Thank you for taking additional picture of your dress. I am pretty sure that it is' 50's - 1955-1957. There is a suggestion of an Empire waist but the lines are really Princess lines and it is definitely a sheath. The little bow treatment was very popular in the mid-late '50's. The length and the back slit definitely say '50's to me.

As I mentioned before, I found that Junior Accent was a Jonathan Logan line. You might want to submit the label to the LR. I found lots and lots of Junior Accent label ads in the Newspaper Archives but not your exact dress.

Lynn,
Thank you soooo much for taking time to look at this dress. I will be happy to submit label to LR as soon as I can get a good image. This will be my 3rd submission if they decide to use it! :)

Best regards,
Alice
