Little crochet hat - for a child?

I've unearthed this pretty little crochet hat. I think it must be for a child as it's quite small - about 21" round the crown.

It looks as though it has been crocheted (or knitted) from a cotton yarn - it's not overly soft. The brim has wire through it to hold it in shape and some ribbon has been threaded through - not sure whether that would have been an original feature. There's no label in it so I imagine it has been hand made.

Any ideas on age at all? It's very sweet - quite impractical of course as a child's sunhat - but sweet nontheless!

It's crocheted, not knitted. As to the age, I can unfortunately not tell.

Thanks Karin - I thought it was crochet but then began to doubt myself. If anyone else can help with the age that would be great.
