Little girl's silk dress

I was recently given a bag full of vintage clothing and found this lovely little hand made silk dress in it. Sadly it is damaged where the back of the neckline has parted company with the fabric and the edge of the torn silk seems quite fragile. The dress itself is in good condition & seems quite strong. It fastens with a press stud at each side of the neck so I suppose general wear and tear (& age) have taken their toll. I would think it was from around 1920s-30s?
Would anyone have any ideas of how I could repair it or indeed if that would be possible? I thought of trying to line the back of the bodice with similar fabric but not sure my sewing skills would be up to it!
Any help/ideas would be much appreciated.

I agree with your dating, it's sweet!
Unfortunately, I think the damage is too severe to bother attempting repair. It would likely go in the discard pile if it were mine.
Otherwise, it could be used for display, I suppose, since the damage is on the back side.
Thanks for your reply. I think you’re right - I have been puzzling over a way to repair it but it's just too far gone. Such a shame as it's so adorable and I can't bear to throw it away!

You could mount it to a fabric-covered board and frame it - it would look quite nice hanging on a wall I think. Maybe get creative with the backing fabric, frame, maybe some accessories or trims....

That is a lovely idea but to be honest I can't see it fitting in my house! It will probably end up in one of my bags of "stuff" that I don't know what to do with!
