Looking for help with date and label, 40s? Thanks!

My Mum stopped by today and gave me a dress she didn't want anymore. I've tried to find information about the label, but am getting a blank. I'm pretty sure it's 1940s, but wondered if it could be 30s. Metal zip on the side. One hip pocket. Cut outs around the front and back with black velvet details. So lovely! Petite Lady. Any help would be appreciated!

Could you show the zip? although they were around in the 30's they weren't commonly used in a dress like that. I would have gone later 40's to 50's even from the style.

My photography sucks, but I tried to take some photos of the zipper. It does say Talon. Also, the dress has dolman sleeves, not sure when that was more popular. They are 3/4 length too. Thanks!

It's hard to see the details of the dress. If you have a photoshop type program if you lighten the photos it often helps with black to see the details. From what I can see I would date it late 1940's.

Does it have any type of shoulder pads? It still looks late 1940's to me but could be early 1950's. I found a couple of ads from 1950 for Petite Lady Modes in the Newspaper Archives.

Thanks Linn, no shoulder pads.

How did you find the ads, it was such a pain as I kept getting everything just about petite sized lady dresses!!

I'm having lots of :duh2: moments tonight! I put the name in quotes and found those adverts you were mentioning. Maybe late 40s? The bust/waist is approx 38"/30".

I subscribe to the Newspaper Archives and only found one ad for 1950 which does not mean that the company was not around longer. The ad I found was for a store in Janesville, Wisconsin and was for a number of national brands - and appears to have been a type of trunk show.

The shoulder line is too soft for '40s and the silhouette isn't right for '30s either - I vote '50s although it's rather short so if that's the original hem length it could be early '60s but if it's been shortened I'll go with '50s.

Nice cut out detailing! It looks like a rayon crepe, and faded in the sun.
