Hello!

I just picked up this gorgeous Asian inspired dress from the local Goodwill store on my lunch break today. I can't find a match for the label, nor the dress (using Google Image Search), so am hoping someone would know anything about this brand, era/year, and such. The dress is a satin-like material, but there's no label with fabric content on the dress that I'm able to find. The zipper is on the back and is a definite vintage metal zipper. I think this may be from the 1970's, but not sure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi there!

Nguyen is a Vietnamese name, and Bien Hoa is a city in South Vietnam. Thi Gang is likely the first name, and I would say this was custom made for Carol J Brennan. Given that Vietnam was at war 1954-1975 (it hurts to even type that) it is hard to say if the dress could have been made during those years. The outer brocade fabric could be silk—you can test it if there are some threads. It's a beautiful color!

Thank you so much for your comment and information! I will have to see if I can find a thread on one of the seams inside to test.
Yes, the blue is stunning. There is one spot on the front about the size of a quarter... I want to find out the fabric content so I can properly clean it without causing damage. Other than the spot, this dress is in magnificent condition.

I thought it was odd that the actual dress label was sewn onto the front inside of the dress, rather than the back. The name tag is sewn onto the back inside, though. Then I was thinking that maybe the dress was for some sort of a theatrical costume, and thus the name label inside it. I could come up with all sorts of guesses, haha.

Again, thank you for your information. Hopefully it will help with my research on this gorgeous dress.

I did just find this image with the same name and description as the label... it's a link to it on Flickr...
