Looking for history on Lucila Mendez milliner

Bombshelly Vintage

I recently aquired this gorgeous hat. At first glance I got really excited because it resembled a hat from the 20's, however, it has a more modern looking label. I see a ton of hats out there with this label that looks 50's/60's but I can not find a stitch of information or history on this designer. Does anyone have information on Lucila Mendez, when she started designing or ended designing? Any help would be appreciated.

I am a fan of her and her hats, especially the ones from the 1940s. I used to have a little bit of info on her background, but not sure where that is in my library. When I come across it I will post it here. I have owned a good number of her hats over the decades, most from the 1940s and a few from the early 1950s. The label you show was used in the 1940s and 1950s, and your hat looks later in style, more 1960s. It is possible she just never changed her label and wanted to use the up the ones she already had.

While she was never one of the "greatest" or most well known of the American milliners, many collectors are familiar with her name and her quality workmanship.

My memory thinks she started in the mid to late 1930s, but I cannot confirm that.
