Looking for information on a mink Louis Lourie and Son from Pittsburgh, Pa. It is late 50's I believe.

I'd like to know what kind of fur it is, how much it's worth and possibly the history of these furriers. There is a name 'Rae Cohan' embroidered in the lining, person who purchased it in 1960. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the photos of your pretty coat. The fur is not Mink. It is Mouton lamb or sheepskin fur which is soft, thick, sheared, straightened, and treated to make it water repellent. It is often dyed various shade of brown and black.

We are unable to offer input on value through our forums here but you can try searching for similar mouton fur coats that have sold on eBay to get an idea of what similar coats in the same condition and age as yours have sold for on average.

The furrier used to have a family established fur salon in Philadelphia, PA that was said to be one of the first fur businesses in the center city called Lourie's furs.
Louis Lourie had a daughter named Anne Lourie who used to work for the fur salon. I found her obituary which mentioned the fur salon and her working there as shown in this excerpt and link to her obituary.
