Lovely purse

Can anyone tell if this is vintage and what kind of fur? I have tested the fur and burnt a bit. It did smell like hair so it is real fur. I just don't know much about fur or how to tell what kind. Trying to figure out age also. Has no pockets and no tag in it. I have put up pictures of the outside and inside. Thanks!

Hi, The fur type is coyote. I am not sure of the age of the purse based on what's been shown. I think it looks like it may have been homemade. If you show a closer view of the strap so we can get a good look at what that fabric is; whether it's an older velvet, newer synthetic velvet or velour, and a full view of the lining fabric our members may be able to better help you with dating.

Thanks! I put up two pics of the handle and the lining. It's not velvet. More like velour I guess. Or is it like fake fur? I am not sure. It's The last pic is becoming blurry and I can't get in anymore on it...

Thank you. The lining looks like a 60s lining however the purse looks handmade and the style looks later. I suspect the purse was made with fur and lining that was previously used for another piece or pieces. When furs get older and repairs need to be made people often restyle them or make something else out of them. I think the purse itself based on the style would most likely date to the 80s or newer but with the older materials being used and it being handmade it would be difficult for me to date it beyond that.

Ok thank you. Do you know if it would be any earlier then 1996? Or could it have been after 1996? The purse being made that is?

It could easily be pre 96 but it's difficult to tell with certainty because this hobo style is a common style that is still made today.

I just want to mention that you are a vintage genius. The expertise from everyone on here really helps so much, especially being a newbie (speaking for myself of course) but I am so glad to have found this site!

You are most welcome Dee Dee. I also meant to tell you that the purse strap looks like sheared beaver fur. :)

Ok, I thought it was just some type of fur that I have seen on coats before. What they call a faux fur perhaps? I don't know much so.

No, no. It's possible it's faux but it's less than likely with the body of the purse being coyote fur. Faux means fake. It looks like sheared beaver fur. Sheared beaver comes from the animal beaver and it's sheared so only the soft underfur remains. It looks like the strap fur was also dyed as I can see a hint of color lifting too.
