Lovely to Look At

I had never seen this movie until it was shown on TV tonight. I wouldn't normally recommend it as its sickeningly sweet and predictable and I am not a fan of Kathryn Grayson coloratura musicals (or Jeanette McDonald, but she isn't in this film) however, the storyline is about a Parisian couture house and the clothing is fun to watch. Especially the finale that has a HUGE fashion show with clothes by Adrian. If you like old films for the clothing, then this is a definate must see.

I wish I had seen that movie last night instead of the one I did see--Original Sin with Antonio Banderas and Angelina Jolie. What a stinker! I'll watch for the next showing of Lovely to Look At.

I love the old movies that have fashion shows in them!

I seem to recall watching one where the clothes were designed by Adrian... so maybe I've seen this one?

Lately, it seems that every time I check TCM/AMC it's got some stinkin' western or period movie... neither of which I'm interested in watching.

Thanks for the heads up, Jonathan

I just double checked and it was on Bravo, but the Canadian Bravo station. However, if they just showed it that might mean it was just re-released for TV viewing. So keep your eyes out. Apparently it was a remake of the 1935 film Roberta with Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. I thought I had seen every Fred and Ginger movie made but i don't recall seeing that one...
