Hi,
first time I'v posted, so bear with me. Does anyone out there know when Mackintosh changed their label from Macintosh to Mackintosh? I have a coat and the label is minus th "K", would be interested to find out the age.
many thanks for all your help, the coat is very old I think. If I knew how to post a picture of the label on here I would, but not sure how to do that. If anyone can give me some pointers that might help.
If I am reading it correctly the name change must be post 1923:
"... Thomas Hancock died in 1865 but Chas. Mackintosh & Co. (with its name unchanged) continued until 1923 when it was taken over by Dunlop. Production on the Manchester site only ceased in 2000 although the original factory was destroyed in 1940. The present factory is now the centre of a regeneration programme for the ‘Southern Gateway’ to Manchester. "
It isn't too clear that it definitely changed over that year, but sounds possible.
After speaking to Mackintosh head office they told me they have always used the K in Mackintosh. I insisted the K was added at a later date they disagreed and said I must have a fake! If you look at the web site there is a copy of their early logo without the K. Oh well, I think I may give up on this.
Oh no, Ian! Don't give up as I want to know too now. I shall keep searching as someone must know. You know you can look at and search the US patent office online, I shall try to find the link later: maybe that will help.
