Mannequin Question - Hope This is OK Here

I have a white plastic torso I bought inexpensively in Chinatown. She's kinda plain. No arms, head or legs. The clothing lacks something on her.

I found a vintage mannequin for sale in Brooklyn for $50. Late 70s - Early 80s. Getting pics later. She's missing a hand and has a dime-sized hole in her *ahem* derriere. Stand included. Two questions:

1. This a great deal. Right? (the plastic torso was more!)

2. Will I be able to replace the missing appendage?

Thanks! Kevin

Yes, its a great price, but the hand issue won't be really easy. I do see mannequin hand auctions come up on ebay regularly but you have to have the right type of attachment for the hand to the arm. If the mannequin is made by rootstein or some other company still in business you might be able to buy a hand from them, or you might be able to find a hand that almost works and tape it at the wrist and paint the tape a skin colour. In the meantime, you could put gloves on her and stuff the fingers...

That's an excellent deal! I think you should have no problem finding another hand on eBay - but like Jonathan says, make sure you take note of how they're attached when you buy one becuase not all of them will fit each other. And alot of people do the "glove" thing to hide missing hands or broken fingers on their mannis - it looks fine.

Even minus a hand thats still a great deal for a manni. Go ahead and get it.

( we won't tell anyone she has a hole in her derriere no one will see it)

I think certain ways you pose her no one will know she has a missing hand either.

I was just going to suggest the same thing that
Pauline did - certain angles her missing hand will not even show, and the glove thing does work.

$50.00 is very good!

Oh how I would love to see a pic of you driving the car with her beside you in the passenger seat. Bet you will get lots of looks.

Check out eBay seller stupeder.

He often has manni parts for reasonable prices. He's out of North Carolina, if that's convenient ?

Good Luck! $50 is a mere song for a manni!

Yes, that is a good deal! I recently bought a vintage one for $40.00, minus one arm and hand. Found out that my other vintage manny I don't really like had arms and hands to fit her!! Still have to paint her face up a little bit but I thought it was a super deal.

They are also really great for displaying hats but you will have to get on a stool to take the picture unless you are super tall!
